What a ChatGPT ad actually looks like

Sponsored results appear beneath a ChatGPT response, clearly labelled and separate from the answer itself. Matching considers the meaning and intent of the conversation rather than an exact keyword match.

1

Clearly labelled. Ads are marked as sponsored and kept separate from the answer itself.

2

Matched to intent. The ad is chosen for the meaning behind the question, not an exact keyword.

3

Sends people to a purpose-built page. The destination answers that question and is tracked through to a lead or sale.

Step 1

Someone asks

"What's the most cost-effective way to send parcels to Europe?"

Step 2

Your ad appears

Beneath the response, matched on the intent behind the question rather than a keyword.

Step 3

They land on your site

On a page built for that specific question, tracked through to a quote request.

Why test now, not later

Early access to a new channel is worth something. Costs are typically lower before competition arrives, and the advertisers who learn the mechanics first are the ones who scale efficiently when it opens up.

That's an argument for testing early - not for testing blindly. The point of a pilot is to find out whether this channel works for your business specifically, on a budget small enough that the answer is affordable either way.

Is ChatGPT advertising right for you?

ChatGPT Ads will not be the right first move for every company. We start with a readiness assessment to understand your market, customer journey, tracking and existing channel performance before recommending a test.

A pilot may be a strong fit if:

  • Customers research, compare or ask detailed questions before buying.
  • Your offer benefits from education, explanation or clear differentiation.
  • You can track qualified leads, purchases or another meaningful business outcome.
  • Your website converts well and gives users a compelling reason to take the next step.
  • You have enough budget and patience to run a controlled learning phase.

We may recommend waiting if:

  • The business needs guaranteed short-term lead volume from day one.
  • There is no reliable conversion tracking or post-click follow-up process.
  • The website or offer needs more fundamental work before buying additional traffic.
  • The product or advertising category is restricted or requires additional approval.
  • The available budget is too small to gather useful evidence.

Reach relevant conversations, not just keyword searches

ChatGPT Ads use the meaning and intent behind a conversation alongside your campaign settings, advert and landing page. We build each campaign around genuine customer needs so your ads have a clearer reason to appear - and a stronger message when they do.

Understand intent

We map the questions, situations and use cases that signal a genuine need for your product or service.

Match the right message

We organise focused ad groups, write natural context hints and create ads and landing-page journeys that fit each intent.

Measure what happens next

We connect the OpenAI Pixel, conversion events and analytics so clicks can be judged by leads, sales and meaningful actions - not traffic alone.

A note on context hints

Context hints help guide matching, but they are not exact-match keywords and do not guarantee placement in a particular conversation.

A focused test in four clear stages

We plan a defined learning window of around 6-8 weeks, adjusted for your traffic, budget and sales cycle. Delivery and conversion data on a new platform need time to stabilise; anything shorter produces noise you'd be wrong to act on.

6-8 weeks is our default. If your sales cycle means it needs to be longer, we'll tell you at the assessment and explain why.

Step 1

Assess

We review your goals, offer, audience, website, tracking and existing paid-media activity. If the channel is not ready for you, we will say so.

Step 2

Build

We create a tightly structured pilot with clear intent themes, relevant creative, sensible budgets and measurement agreed before launch.

Step 3

Learn

We monitor delivery and conversion quality, test messages and refine where the data supports a change.

Step 4

Decide

We provide a plain-English readout: scale, revise, pause or redirect the budget. Continuing is never the default simply because a campaign exists. The pilot ends on a decision date. There's no automatic rollover - continuing is an active choice, and we'll recommend scale, revise, pause or stop.

Everything needed to plan, launch and learn

You will not be left to navigate an unfamiliar platform alone. We manage the pilot from initial assessment through to the scale-or-stop decision.

Readiness & opportunity assessment

We assess product fit, likely conversation themes, measurement readiness and the role ChatGPT Ads should play in your wider plan.

Account & campaign setup

We configure the advertiser account, campaign structure, locations, platforms, budgets and access correctly.

Intent & context strategy

We translate customer needs into focused ad groups and useful context hints rather than copying a Google keyword list.

Creative & landing-page alignment

We develop the headline, copy, imagery and destination journey around the job the customer is trying to complete.

Conversion measurement

We implement or specify Pixel, conversion events, UTMs and, where appropriate, Conversions API requirements.

Optimisation & reporting

We monitor spend, delivery, clicks, conversions and quality, then explain what we learned and what should happen next.

What a pilot costs

OpenAI currently sets a £15 minimum daily campaign budget for UK accounts. That's the platform floor, not the budget needed for a test that produces a usable answer.

A viable pilot needs enough spend to generate conversion volume you can actually read. We recommend a figure after the assessment, based on your objective, competition and conversion journey.

Your account, your billing profile, your data

You retain ownership throughout. We work inside a client-owned advertiser account with the access we need and nothing more.

No automatic rollover

The pilot ends with a decision, not a renewal. Typical pilot length is 6-8 weeks.

We'll say so before you spend anything

If we don't think the channel is ready for you, the assessment will tell you that - and what to fix first.

A new layer in your paid-media strategy - not a blind replacement

Ongoing optimisation
Clear, human reporting

Google Ads remains powerful when someone expresses demand through a search. ChatGPT Ads can add another route into consideration by appearing while someone explores a problem, compares approaches or asks for help making a decision.

For many businesses, the strongest test will run alongside Google Ads. We can compare the channels using consistent conversion definitions and assess the role each plays in generating demand, capturing it and turning it into revenue.

Are ChatGPT Ads available in the UK?

Yes. OpenAI currently lists self-service Ads Manager access as available to UK advertisers. The product remains in beta, so features, availability and requirements may continue to change.

How do ChatGPT Ads work?

Sponsored ads can appear beneath ChatGPT responses. Delivery considers factors including the current conversation's context and intent, the advert, landing page, bid, advertiser-provided context hints and other eligible signals. Ads remain separate from ChatGPT's answer.

Do ChatGPT Ads use keywords?

Not in the same exact-match way as traditional search campaigns. Advertisers can provide context hints describing relevant needs, topics and situations, but these guide matching rather than guaranteeing that an ad appears for particular words or conversations.

How much do ChatGPT Ads cost in the UK?

OpenAI currently lists a £15 minimum daily campaign budget for UK accounts. Actual cost and the budget needed for a useful test depend on your objective, bid, audience, competition and conversion journey. Hatch recommends a viable pilot budget after assessing those factors.

What campaign objectives are available?

OpenAI currently supports reach campaigns bought on a CPM basis, click campaigns bought on a CPC basis and conversion-optimised CPC campaigns where the account and measurement setup support them.

Can ChatGPT Ads track leads and sales?

Yes. Advertisers can configure conversion events and send data using the OpenAI Pixel, the Conversions API or both. We also use consistent UTM parameters and analytics checks to compare platform reporting with website and CRM outcomes.

Can advertisers see users' ChatGPT conversations?

No. OpenAI states that advertisers do not receive users' chats, chat history, memories or personal details. Advertisers receive aggregated, non-identifying performance reporting.

Who can see ads in ChatGPT?

Ads may appear to eligible adults using supported ad-funded experiences, including Free and Go plans. OpenAI says ads are not shown to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu accounts, or to accounts identified as belonging to people under 18.

Are ChatGPT Ads suitable for small businesses?

Potentially, but availability alone does not make the channel suitable. Businesses need a clear offer, a credible website, reliable conversion tracking and enough budget to gather useful evidence. Our assessment is designed to establish whether testing now is sensible.

Will ChatGPT Ads replace Google Ads?

Usually not. Google Ads captures explicit search demand, while ChatGPT Ads can reach people during conversational research and decision-making. For many advertisers, the useful question is how the two channels work together.

How long should a pilot run?

There is no universal answer. Hatch will normally plan a defined 6-8 week learning window, then adjust it for expected traffic, spend, conversion volume and sales-cycle length. The outcome can be to scale, revise, pause or wait.

Why 6-8 weeks and not a shorter test?

Delivery and conversion data on a new platform take time to stabilise. A two or three-week test on a beta channel produces noise rather than evidence, and acting on it would be worse than not testing at all. We'd rather run a window long enough to give you a defensible answer.

Can Hatch manage our ChatGPT Ads account?

Yes. We can plan and manage campaigns through a dedicated client advertising account with the appropriate access. We recommend that the client retains account ownership and its own billing profile.
